Commission 1: Internal corrosion of pipe materials and facilities

In the future, 2 working groups will be re-established in Commission 1

  • WG A – Asset management for water supply systems (proposed leader: Xavier Stassart, Société Walonne des Eaux, Belgium)

  • WG B – Corrosion behaviour of Brass Alloys in drinking water (proposed leader: Abelkader Meroufel, Sweden).

The content of WG A is mainly aimed at water suppliers, the content of WG B at corrosion and materials experts (national experts to participate). Exact titles of working groups and additional information available on the website as soon as possible.

An on-line meeting for a smaller core group is planned for mid-January to determine the next steps (e.g. detailed programme for the working groups, preparations for a meeting of members and interested parties for Commission 1 at the beginning of February, planning of the meeting in Leuven).

Timo Jentzsch is proposed by Commission 1 and approved by the Board to be nominated Vice-President of Commission 1 in succession of Peter Frenz whose term came to an end.

Working Group A – “Asset Integrity management for water supply systems”

Convenor Angelika Becker (angelika.becker@iww-online.de) & Marius Kobert (IWW Water Centre)

Definition of a “technical asset management strategy” for supply systems under consideration of “risk management” and “corrosion” in the water sector.
Influence factors of pipe materials and hygienic aspects for technical and economic rehabilitation strategies.

An IWW platform will be launched and a questionnaire will be distributed. The answers will be discussed during the next working group meeting.

Working Group B – “Coatings” in collaboration with Commission 2

Convenor : 
WG B deals with corrosion of materials and products used in drinking water equipment and in-house installations and their influence on water quality.
The objectives of WG B are:

  • to collect information about new technologies and new materials,
  • to exchange knowledge about laboratory and field experiences,
  • to monitor technological development,
  • to elaborate recommendations and guidelines.

Working Group C – “Corrosion behaviour of brass alloys”

Convenor:  Angelika Becker (a.becker@iww-online.de)

Angelika will prepare a document on reduction of lead, corrosion behaviour and hygienic consequences.
